Thank heavens it's Friday!

I have a lot to finish up at work today, then I will head to Huntsville to meet Paige and we are heading to Rowlett for the weekend. Im so excited about a girlfriend weekend. Our regain board is having a get together and I'm looking forward to that. It should be a great weekend. Still battling the sinus stuff, but got new antibiotics and sinus meds yesterday, so hopefully 3 days of relaxing and the meds will help!

Happy birthday Kathy Bender!

Have a good day...

 Good Morning Karla and TMB,

I'm glad it's friday too but not sure why yet.  LOL   My son is still feeling under the weather from the mono.    He woke up yesterday to the other side of his throat killing him although I did get him to eat and drink more food than he has been doing.    Not sure what today will bring my way.    HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHY BENDER !!!!   Hope you have a wonderful birthday today.    Prayers for everyone in need.   Have a great weekend everyone.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Hey You Guys!

Yesterday was the big 01 for Blake. It's hard to believe that its been a year since I got to meet him for the very first time. It's been a wonderful year being his mommy. I can't remember life before him now.

Busy weekend ahead. Tonight I've been invited to a party with some co-workers, I am hoping to make group in the morning, and then Sunday Bailey is showing her doe at the FW Stock Show. She will be there all weekend, but the show isn't until Sunday. My nephew is having his birthday party on Sunday too. Unfortunately I have work on Monday so no three day weekend for me. Tuesday I'm having an EGD to figure out why my stomach hurts so bad. I haven't eaten since last Wednesday. Great for weight loss rough on the body though.

Yesterday my FIL took all of our show animals to the vet to get their health papers. The goat needs to be registered with the USDA for a disease called scrapies. It's primarily a sheep disease but goats can get it if they are housed with them. There's no eradication at this time but they are trying to implement a tracking program for goats/sheep that contract the disease. It's simply an ear tag that has the breeder's unique number on it and then a second set of numbers that belong to just that particular goat. Our goat had her tag in her ear. Somehow the vet did not see the tag and created a fuss about needing it before he could sign the papers. My FIL didn't know that the tag was actually the correct tag, because these are our goats and not his. Also, the female pigs, or gilts need a shot that wards off a few diseases like pnuemonia etc. Somehow in the morning when my FIL was there they couldn't find the vial of medicine but later that afternoon someone found it. As soon as I got home I got to haul all the animals back up to the vet. Lucky me! I don't mind hauling the trailer, but I hate trying to manuever it out of tight spots backwards. There is an area where you can park your trailer and not get blocked in. I did what I was supposed to do and parked there. As you can guess, someone blocked the exit. I ended up having to back the trailer through the parking lot which is about 15ft wide and full of parked cars. I had to turn it and my truck around 180 degrees and then get to the driveway to make it back on the highway. As soon as I pulled it around and got on the highway, the young girls that were blocking the driveway came out and left. lol I usually get stuck doing manuevers like that with three 1500lb mares in the trailer who are jostling around and shaking the trailer and consequently the truck. I guess I should be thankful I was hauling the smaller livestock!

Gotta get to work!

Happy belated to Blake. Cant believe its been a year already!! WOW!!  Ok... to YOU, the worse part of the vet visit was the truck/trailer etc and yes i do get that but im thinking the worse would be loading and unloading all those different animals lol.  Im thinking the mare part would compare to me, my little car, loaded with three huskies and the chihuahua mix on a 5 hour road trip to my  moms?? and back? lol.

Dirk and the girls usually load them on the barn side. Although I have had to do it a few times. Goats are pretty easy. You put their halter on and pull. Usually you have to pick up their front feet and put them in the trailer, the back legs usually follow (if you're lucky). If we're just hauling a goat or two or young hogs we use a cage that goes into the bed of the truck. This requires a little more agility because of the 4 foot height clearance. Boy goats (or wethers) don't usually mind the jump- they usually weigh about 60 lbs or so, so they are peppy. Does are a little more interesting- they weigh in the upwards of 180 lbs or more and have no desire to jump that high. This usually means picking them up and heaving them. Small hogs are like picking up wiggling round children with four legs attached to hooves that kick. They squeal like crazy too, so while you are manhandling them into a gate about 3 feet wide for an animal that has stretched his feet out to be 4 feet wide you are also going deaf from the loud screeching in your ears. They have their own ramps for the trailer once they get larger. We back the trailer to their pen, get the pig board out and manuever them into the trailer. A bucket of feed is usually good motivation to go up the ramp.

Once we had a wether that was very skittish. He would NOT get out of the cage. In all my brillance I decided that if I opened the gate and stood at the cab of the truck so that he could not see me, he'd finally get the picture and jump out of his own. Now mind you- he is in a secure environment, penned up and literally caged. I COULD have gotten his halter, put it on him and pulled, but since I was being somewhat lazy I didn't want to climb into the cage with him, so I decided that the "open the cage" idea was better. You guessed it- he jumped, and then he RAN! and ran, and ran, and ran...... on 18 acres this turned out to NOT be such a great plan.

Most horses after going to shows a few times learn to load up pretty easily. This is unless you are the only one home and have an hour to get the trailer on the truck, the horse loaded and to the vet. I needed to take one of the 1500lb mares to the vet to get her Coggins papers. Once a year you have to get your horse tested for a very serious disease. I guess its pretty contagious and makes them very sick. Coggins papers are the official version of a clean bill of health to take your horse around other horses for rodeos and such. She decided that under no uncertain terms was she getting into the trailer for me. I even put a bucket of feed into the trailer. She'd put her two front feet in and stretch her neck out as far as she could, her big ol' tongue was even stretched out to reach the bucket. I grabbed her lead, tied it to the side of the trailer so she couldn't back up. Then I went out the side door, came up behind her (she wasn't a kicker) and smacked her butt. She turned around and looked at me like I'd lost my mind, which I had by this point. She decided to load up and we made it to the vet like 5 minutes before closing.

At least mine are in a trailer and I'm not rolling the window down for "horse breath"! lol

TRACEY-Did you see my FB status yesterday-devoted to our BB?

Remember the good old days? When you were a city girl, and lived in the Bentley Estate? All you had to haul back then was drunks, and the occasional stranded gay guy..and get them in and out of a 2 door Mustang...of course, some of them did SMELL like goats...but at least they didn't require "Coggins papers"..whatever in the hell THAT is...

OMGosh you made me laugh hard!!!

Yes, I do miss the Bentley Estate. I don't think I'll be giving up horses anytime soon (wink wink) but I'm not sure I miss hauling drunk people out of parking lots after they've stolen all of my damn omlet! hehe! It seems like a lifetime ago. It was never dull was it?!?? lol

I need to check out FB.

Love and miss you!
